PHP Logging Basics in Ultimate Guide for Logging
Over the weekend, Loggly launched the PHP Logging Basics section for their Ultimate Guide for Logging. I was thrilled to contribute to it, as well as to help shape and review the overall structure of the guide. The goal of the guide is to:
“help software developers and system administrators become experts at using logs to better run their systems. This is a vendor-neutral, community effort featuring examples from a variety of solutions”
While the documentation on php.net is a great resource for pieces of this puzzle, the guide is a worthwhile companion to it. PHP developers, particularly novices, now have an excellent resource for figuring out what errors they should be logging, what functions are available in the language, and good advice on how to manage errors and exceptions. This is just the first part of the guide too, there are more sections coming in the near future.
